After a massive sleep in (I must have a seafood hangover) we thought we'd walk up to the mission today. Aptly named too, as the walk up was all uphill. First off we walked down De la Vina Street past the other Cajun Kitchen which apparantly is even better than the other one, and then turned up Mission St. It was a longer walk than expected. Once we got to the top of Mission St - where I expected The Mission to be, we then had to walk up Challenge St.
The Mission has a lot of history to it. Sherry was impressed but also a bit shocked by the oppression of the native Chumash Indians. that part was shocking I agree, but it was good to see a blend of cultures.
The history - It's all in these walls

The well manicured gardens were particularly impressive. You could tell it was maintained. I didn't realise that the recent fires had come so close to burning the Mission down. The botanical gardens just next to the Mission had been half burnt and some of the photos shown showed how close the fires came to this place.
The main areas to see were the main adobe, the museum video, the masoleum, the church, and the museum. The video was cool to watch. You here a lot about St Francis of Aseesee and not only the general religious history of the mission, but of Californian history and the Mexicans and Indians. It was shocking to hear that teh Indians werent recognised as citizens until 1927. For a large period the Indians were shootable on sight.
The masoleum was pretty creepy. I dont think I've been in many before and I wast just waiting for the Power Liches to come out.
The church itself was very impressive. I kind of understand why so much money is put into the construction of churches. It really is to create a sense of awe. And yeah I was pretty impressed. I even had time for a prayer.
For all you sinners out there - this is what the inside of a church looks like
It was then time for food. I-Hop again. this time I had some sort of deep-fried steak thing with white gravy. It was kind of like a cross between a McChicken and some of Mum's schnitzel's. Then at home we watched teh movie 'I Love you Man' for the 3rd time. Slappin' da base mun!
