Sunday I think we thought we should do something, but we were both pretty pooped after Leslie and Brian showed what true Portland people are all about. We just couldn't stand up to it. So we headed for the city on Sunday, hoping to stop off at Mother's firstly for some breakfast. There was a massive wait for this famous eatery, but as we found out - People in Portland queue up for everything (I think it's due to the cold. People want to stand close up with others for the body warmth).
So we ended up eating at a place across the street. i wasn't to sure about it when we first went in because the host was this guy who reminded me of Ray Barone's depressed cousin Gerard. But the food was top notch/ I had a scramble and could not complain at all.
We then drove around for a bit, eventually stopping at and going to the Portland museum. We weren't overly eccited by it unforrunatly, there didn't seem to be any overall theme. Things just seemed to jump all over the place. there was a really nice mini park area just out the front here though.
We then went for mroe a drive. We drover therough a pretty ahppening part of town - i think called Nob Hill. We were going to do a walking tour from the book Leslie had let us borrow, but nothing seemed appealing. Well we did choose one but when we got to the area it just seemd to isolated and empty to do the tour.
So off we drove again - over the river and pass the Rose Garden. I was looking forward to the game on Wednesday night vs the Pistons.
We then headed back into town and stopped at Voodoo Donuts. This place was really good. You could tell. People were queieing. The last time I had seen people queue for donuts was at the grand opening of Crispy Creme's in Fountain Gate. Cars were queueing up for hours upon hours just for a taste of the worst donuts ever.
This place was worth queueing for though. As soon as we went inside we knew it would be good. They had the Doors playing to set a nice vibe. I'm not all together sure whether I agree with Sherry's thinking that it was a more adult donut shop but on her side she did have one of the donut names. the 'cock 'n balls'.
We ended up settling on the Voodoo dozen - which was a dozen donuts picked by the server. So it was really just a mixed bag. Apparantly there are two types of donuts - cake and raised. I don't know - they all taste awesome to me. Anyway I also ended up getting another donut. I wanted one with jelly on the inside and chocolate icing on the outside. Turns out this was their signature donut and it was called...wait for it...'The Voodoo Doll'!!. Take a look at it.
Cool hey? Notice the pretzel (stake) through the heart. All of this for under 9 bucks. In Melbourne for donuts this good you would be paying over 20 dollars for sure.
